Laurie Michelle Bridges
[edit]Laurie Michelle Bridges (K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base, Marquette County, Michigan, United States, 12 November 1972), is an American librarian specialising in academic libraries, technologies and education.
Professional career
[edit]Bridges obtained a Masters in Information Sciences at the University of Washington in 2006[1]. That same year, in September, she began working as a librarian and associate professor in the University of Oregon State, more concretely in the Valley Library,[2] specialised in training and emerging technologies.[3]
Bridges' areas of investigation include the use of Wikipedia in the field of higher education and academic libraries, social justice in higher education and language justice, the use of libraries in social media, information alphabetisation, as well as the free access to information and fake news, among others.[4]
She is coeditor of the book Wikipedia and Academic Libraries: a global project, that was published in Spring 2021, together with Raymond Pun and Roberto Arteaga.[5]
Bridges also forms part of different professional associations: she is a member of the United States Association of Librarians, the Association of College and Research Libraries, and is the information coordinator for the Freedom of Access to Information and Freedom of Expression (FAIFE) Advisory Committee, of the International Federation of Associations of Librarians and Libraries. [edit]- In 2020 Bridges received the ACRL-Oregon Award for the project Writing African American History into Wikipedia
- In 2008 Bridges received distinction as an Emerging Leader for her part in the United States Association of Librarians.
