Galilaeana is an international open-access, peer-reviewed journal. It is semiannual and specialised in the history of Renaissance and Early Modern Science, with a particular focus on the issues related to Galilean studies.
History
[edit]Promoted by the Institute and Museum of the History of Science in Florence, now known as Museo Galileo, Galilaeana has been the first journal entirely dedicated to the Tuscan scientist. It was founded in 2004 with the aim to study in more depth several aspects related to Galileo: biography, works, scientific acquisitions, fortune. Specialised in the History of Renaissance and Early Modern Science, the journal also analyses contributions which, although not specifically focusing on Galileo, may be important for a proper reconstruction of the cultural background of the Early Modern Age. This further mission is testified by the subheading of the journal that, since 2014, changed from Journal of Galilean Studies to Studies in Renaissance and Early Modern Science. From 2023 the journal will be no longer annually printed by Olschki in paper version and will become an online open-access semiannual journal.
Structure
[edit]The journal consists of the following sections:
- Studies
- Iconography
- Texts & Documents
- Essay Reviews
- News
From 2023 it will host and promote monographic sections (called Focus) on specific subjects and matters.
Galilaeana Collection
[edit]Since 2010, the journal is linked to the “Galilaeana Collection”[1] which publishes wide-ranging contributions related to the figure and work of Galileo, but also to figures and topics from the early modern period
