In 1927, the Cocoa-Rockledge Garden Club was formed. It was federated in 1928. Our contributions to the community include working with the state of Florida to declare Indian River Drive North and South, as well as Tropical Trail North and South as “scenic drives.” The Garden Club maintains the Blue Star Marker on Route One and participates in beautification projects in the surrounding public areas. In the 1980s, the Cocoa-Rockledge Garden Club played a role in establishing three Bartram Trail markers in Brevard County. William Bartram, an early environmentalist traveled the southeastern U.S., discovered the Zebra butterfly in Brevard County, FL, and published Bertram’s Travels in 1791. Mrs. Allan Cruickshank, a Cocoa-Rockledge Garden Club member, was instrumental in having the markers placed and dedicated at the Canaveral Wildlife Seashore.
