The Hermit of Eyton Forest is a medieval mystery novel set in the fall of 1142 by Ellis Peters, first published in 1987 . This is the fourteenth novel in the Brother Cadfael series.

Richard Ludel the hereditary tenant of the manor of Eaton dies from wounds received at the Battle of Lincoln. Several years before he had placed by his father in the care of the abbey to be schooled until he reaches his manhood. Upon being told of his fathers death the young Richard Ludel tells Brother Paul that his grandmother did not agree with his being sent to the abbey for schooling. She wanted him to marry the neighbor's daughter who will become the heiress to the manors of Leighton and Wroxeter which lay on either side of Eaton. Dionisia Ludel takes in a reverend pilgrim and has refurbished the old hermitage in the woodland for his use. Eilmund, the forester of the Eyton forest reports to the chapter at the Abbey that someone is causing random damage in the forest. Cuthred the hermit sends his messenger Hyacinth to the chapter house to say that the
