Carolina Ibarra-Mendoza (born 1989) is a Los Angeles based Xicana feminist artist, freelance graphic designer, photographer, and creative director. Carolina has two bachelor’s degrees in graphic design and women’s studies from the University of California, Davis (2012). Since completing her Master’s of Fine Arts degree in graphic design from Otis College of Art and Design in 2016, she has successfully applied the critical thinking used in her women’s studies background towards a conceptually rich application of graphic design.
Carolina has traveled to England to study British exhibition design and the Netherlands to tour several design studios. As an artist she views the world through a unique lens shaped by her vibrant cultural heritage as a Mexican-American, adventures abroad, and academic pursuits; these influences have folded into an aesthetic that is minimal, clever, crafted for the project, and speaks on multiple planes. Her strengths range from conceptual development of large-scale projects to detailed production of visual images and typographic based communication. Previous clients of hers include Mayor Eric Garcetti's Gender Equity team, Atlanta on FX series, and Legion on FX. Currently, she is incredibly proud to be creating the feminist archive website AgainstViolence.Art with world-renowned artists Leslie Labowitz-Starus and Suzanne Lacy.
Carolina is passionately involved in two non-profit organizations: Las Fotos Project (LFP), and The Montebello Historical Society (MHS). As the Chairwoman of Communications for the MHS and an active photography mentor for LFP, she demonstrates her incredible passion for revisiting the past and investing in the future from a feminist perspective.
