The VR Class Sm7 is a shortened, long-distance version of the JKOY Class Sm5, intended for use on the VR commuter rail lines D, H, O, R, Y and Z The units are 3 cars long, compared to the Sm5's 4 cars, however they have the same traction power and an upgraded traction package, giving them slightly higher acceleration and an increased top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph), shortening journey times and creating more paths. They have 2+2 seating instead of 3+2, slightly larger, comfier seats, and less standing capacity. Sm7 units also run one return M train daily from Tampere to Nokia, and one G/O train from Riihimäki to Kouvola in the early morning, in addition to covering for Sm4 and Sm5 units on G, L, M, O, Y and Z services.
