Musical background and outlook
[edit]My involvement started at a young age. I recall listening to many different albums by The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jack Johnson, among many others, in the front seat of my dads white truck with the windows rolled down at the age of 6 or 7. I would call it my “musical roots”, with some of my clearest childhood memories being times like those, but it wasn’t until a couple years later at 10 or 11, where my interest was really piqued. I attended music class once a week and the teacher, Mrs. Lingo, would sing us well known Disney tunes if we had behaved well during class. I was particularly focused, for that reason. Following that class, the rest becomes history. I quickly developed a passion for music, more specifically singing, and television shows like American Idol and various concerts I was lucky enough to attend really placed me in a certain frame of mind; that I would someday make a living performing and pursuing music. Along with that, the influential lifestyle that some of my favorite artists lived completely intrigued me. How could one person hold so much power in pop culture? Fast-forward a few years and there I am; on a stage in front of an audience of ten thousand, with some of the best known “talent scouts” (i.e., Simon Cowell) sitting in the front row. I thought I had made it, had everything all figured out. Then I really found music, and thank the Lord it was not on a television show called the X-Factor.
There is something so beautiful about the simplicity of listening to your favorite song, the emotion that it evokes, the places it can take you. I think we all know the feeling, and that’s what I love about music, about being a musician, a creator. And as I’ve grown older and wiser I have settled into my shoes a bit and realized truly how universal and powerful music is and can be, and as a result my goals have become even greater. As we are surrounded by a tremendous amount of negativity and cynicism in most major media outlets, everything and everyone seems to be so focused on the “problems” of the 21st century, rather than any type of solution. I hope to inspire a generation, my generation, through music in the same ways that I have been inspired by some of my favorite artists and speakers, that it really is our job, and in some cases our last chance, to make a difference in several global crises. I know that I was put on this earth to use my talents to make a difference, to be a leader, an activist and an inspiration.

[edit]Some of my ideas:
- "Rethink Music" event that took place in Boston less than two weeks ago (I attended the event)
- Further biography and discography of an artist I've been researching lately, Gavin Degraw
- The music scene of Ventura, CA (my hometown)
