The Robert K. Jabs School of Business, also known as the Jabs School of Business, is one of ten schools and colleges at California Baptist University located in Riverside, California. It was named for Dr. Robert K. Jabs, the first Dean of the School of Business.

The school is consistently ranked among the best in the country by US New and World Report. It is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

The school is situated in a high-tech building near the center of the CBU campus. Designed by architects Hill Partnership, the 56,717 sq/ft building was completed in 2012 and includes 14 state of the art classrooms, the student career center, a live stock ticker in the Capital Markets Trading Room and a board room. LEED certification of the building is in progress.

CBU offers cutting-edge undergraduate and graduate business programs that will equip Christian leaders to transform the world for the Kingdom of God. Programs are created with a distinct global and entrepreneurial mindset. Grounded in traditional business theory and blended with contemporary thought, Judeo-Christian values further enhance CBU business programs, merging a biblical perspective with the global impetus and entrepreneurial practices. Courses are taught by caring professors who are uniquely academically qualified and boast significant professional experience in management, consulting, and entrepreneurship.

The Ticker is the official blog of CBU's Jabs School of Business. The Ticker keeps subscribers informed about upcoming events and shares insights from Jabs faculty about current business news and research.


Since 2002, the School has hosted the Oxford Program, a 10 day study abroad program in partnership with Regent’s Park College at the University of Oxford. Students learn from Oxford professors and local business professionals, as well as from a tour of the nearby Mini Cooper factory to get a perspective on international business and the global economy. They also participate in cultural tours to Stonehenge; Blenheim Palace; C.S. Lewis’ home, church and grave; and the City of Bath.

The Department of Business Administration was first established in 1961 when Jerry Hill became the first student to graduate from California Baptist College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. For the first 25 years, programs were located in the historic W. E. James building.

Dr. Robert K. Jabs became chairman and professor in the Department of Business Administration in the Fall of 1978. Early on, Dr. Jabs pioneered the integration of biblical principles and a “real-world” orientation in the academic curriculum in business. Before coming to California Baptist College, Dr. Jabs worked for nineteen years in the electronics and aerospace fields in various technical and management positions. He completed his Ph.D. in Business Economics at Claremont Graduate University. Dr. Jabs is credited with the teaching model the School of Business still follows today: The academically trained scholar-teacher who, by virtue of personal experience, integrates faith and a “real-world” perspective for students. The Department of Business Administration was renamed the Division of Business Administration was established in 1983. Programs were consolidated into space above the old Garrett Dining Room within the W.E. James building.

In 1995, the School’s degree programs were the first on the West Coast of the United States to gain accreditation by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), now known as the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs. The world’s leading specialized accreditation recognizes excellence in teaching post-secondary business education.

The Masters of Business Administration program was established in 1996.

In 1997, Business Programs relocated from the James building across campus to Mission Hall with a well-equipped computer classroom and contemporary instruction spaces.

California Baptist College became California Baptist University in 1998 and the first MBA class graduated that same year.

In 2001 the BBA Program for Adult Learners was organized as the BA program in Business Administration.

The School of Business was established from the previous Division of Business Administration in 2002.

In 2003, with the new identity as the School of Business, programs moved from Mission Hall into the second floor of the Dana and Melba Horn Academic Wing of the University’s new Eugene and Billie Yeager Center.

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting was launched in 2005 under the leadership of Professor Julie Browning. Previously, accounting was offered as a concentration within the Business Administration Major. In the same year, the School of Business was named in honor of Dr. Robert K. Jabs, recognizing his three decades of faithful service to California Baptist University.


In 2007, Dr. Andrew C. Herrity became the second Dean. With his BA in Economics from University of Southern California, an MBA with a concentration in Finance and Marketing from California State Polytechnic University and his Ph.D. in Organization Theory from the University of California at Riverside, Dr. Herrity studies CEO’s and is a collaborating member of Riverside Technology CEOs Forum. Dr. Herrity also completed graduate courses in cross-cultural leadership at Fuller Graduate School of Intercultural Studies, 1989-1991 and graduate courses in management and entrepreneurship at Claremont Graduate School, 1991-1993 and received a grant in 2012 by the Coalition for Christian Colleges and Universities for Sabbatical study at the University of Cambridge: Solving the “jobs problem” in Southern California’s Inland Empire: Examining and understanding the market for new business formations as the path to stimulating employment. Dr. Herrity’s other scholarly interests include Entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs, Leadership, CEOs, Strategic Management. He is the author of, "The Entrepreneurial Capitalist as Hero," published 2009 in the International Journal of Change Management.

For many years, the marketing program was also a concentration of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. In 2008, recognizing the success of the School’s marketing alumni and the growing market need for a distinct degree in the field, the BS in Marketing was launched.

In 2011, the School of Business celebrated 50 years of graduating students with the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

In 2012, Dr. G. Franco Gandolfi succeeded Herrity to become the third Dean. Previously at Regent University, Dr. Gandolfi instituted a curriculum and program structure overhaul to redefine the Jabs MBA.

In 1961, the first student graduated from California Baptist College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Now, about one hundred students graduate from California Baptist University with the same degree each year. The program enjoys thousands of alumni.

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting was launched in 2005 under the leadership of Professor Julie Browning. Previously, accounting was offered as a concentration within the Business Administration Major.

For many years, the marketing program was also a concentration of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. In 2008, recognizing the success of its marketing alumni and the growing market need for a distinct degree in the field, the BS in Marketing was launched.

In 1996, the School of Business launched its graduate program to address the need for a Professional MBA in inland Southern California. Alumni are successful CEO’s, government officials, chief financial officers, Fortune 500 executives, entrepreneurs and leaders in many other influential positions around the world. The original concentration was in Management; Accounting was added in 2011, with Healthcare Administration and Construction Management following in 2013.
