Essie Cosmetics

[edit]

Essie cosmetics is a nail polish company, currently manufactured in Astoria, New York. Essie first started in 1981 when creator, Essie Weingarten[1], released twelve different nail polish colors and soon after released a top coat and base coat in 1982. The company took off from there as many celebrities began buying and promoting the brand. In 2010, the Essie company was bought by L’Oreal and in 2012, Essie nail polish spread internationally. Their first gel polish collection came out in 2016 allowing for an easy, long wear nail polish. In 2017, they created their first nail care polish called TLC (Treat, Love & Color).

Essie nail polish has over 1,000 different shades[2] of nail polish as the company releases new colors every season. Their classic nail polish found in the distinctive square bottle with a white lid, costs $9.00. Their gel couture collection, in a twisted bottle is a little more pricey at $11.50 each and the Treat, Love & Color collection is $10.00 per bottle. Essie’s goal is to have an easy, long wearing nail polish for everyone to use that gives the look of a professionally done manicure. As of 2010, Essie nail polish was selling $28 million worth of product a year[3]. The nail polish is now sold in many pharmacies and in over 50,000 spas and salons all over the world.
