This is an article about a mosque in Uganda, Kampala Wandegeya
Introduction:
I visited the Wandegeya mosque where I found this ancient Arabic Calligraphy called Al-Jazm an early script originally used in the [Peninsula]. It has roots in Persian, Syriac, and Nabatean scripts. It's considered one of the predecessors to the Arabic alphabet and likely originated around AD 300. Now besides the origin of the font, the writings we found on the Wandegeya mosque were not designed by a foreigner. they were designed by a Ugandan artist guided by the imam of the mosque Sheikh Muhammad Kizza and we found out that the writings are Quranic verses saying "The places of worship are ˹only˺ for Allah, so do not invoke anyone besides Him" chapter 72 verse 18. The verse is very important to Muslims and most especially the ones that go to the Wandegeya mosque because it reminds them what their mosque is for and guides them even further to welcome everyone that comes to the mosque since the verse says mosques are not owned by anyone but God.
My main aim in visiting the Wandegeya mosque was to find out the meanings of the different symbols used to decorate the mosque and indeed I discovered things beyond my imagination. And I express how much i was surprised with the detail.
The mosque has got a symbol of a moon and star which is believed to be a divine symbol in Islam
In conclusion, we would like to note that in the Islamic culture capturing static images of people is discouraged and this is why the officials allowed us to record a video of ourselves the one we sent to the group but refused us to take pictures of ourselves at the mosque and they added that this why there is no drawing of the prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H even though there were artists in his time.
