The New Jersey Minnesota Cactuses at the 2010 Shuffleboard World Cup

The New Jersey Minnesota Cactuses are a team of shuffleboard players based in New Jersey. The oddity in their name may confuse some, but the inception is quite brilliant. During the early 1970s, the city of Camden, New Jersey experienced a sudden boom in demand for live cactus house plants. As most of us know, cacti are not native to New Jersey, but they are natively grown in sparse areas of Minnesota. The upper class of Camden, New Jersey imported thousands of cacti from Minnesota over the decade, thus influencing the name of the team. The founder of the team, Sergei Chasnov, was quite illiterate since he was rather new to the country and grammatical correctness. This is why the team's name remains the New Jersey Minnesota Cactuses, and not the more proper New Jersey Minnesota Cacti. Despite the error in the naming of the team, the Cactuses went on to several achievments in their career, including placing third at the 2010 Shuffleboard World Cup. Category:Shuffleboard
