Mohenjodaro (film) is an upcoming Indian romantic period drama film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Produced by Gowariker and Hrithik Roshan for AGPPL PVT, the film is a love story inspired by one of the largest settlements of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization of the same name. Hrithik Roshan stars as the male lead with To Be Announced as the female lead.

Principal photography on the film began on October 23, 2014 in India. The film is scheduled to be released sometime in 2016.

After the success of Jodhaa-Akbar, Ashutosh Gowariker began developing a new film adaptation of Mohenjo-Daro in May 2010.

Casting

In March 2014, Hrithik Roshan renewed talks to play the male lead after turning the project down due to prior commitments. His involvement in the film was officially confirmed by Gowariker two months later. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was offered to play the female lead, but turned it down to work on other projects, actresses Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone were also offered the part but dropped out due to other works as well. In May 2014 it was reported that Kareena Kapoor Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and Sonakshi Sinha were testing for the part of the female lead. On June 30, 2014, To Be Announced was added in the cast as the female lead.

Filming

Principal photography on Mohenjo-Daro began on September 23, 2013.[1] The production on the film occurred at Pinewood Studios in London and also took place throughout England including Blenheim Palace, Windsor Castle, Old Royal Naval College and Black Park. [2] The movie entered post-production in December 2013.[3]

On June 7, 2013 news confirmed that A. R. Rahman would score the music for the film.

AGPPL PVT. has not yet scheduled a release date. The film is expected to release sometime in 2016.[4]
