My name is Howard Cherniack, and I've lived in Vancouver, British Columbia, since 1973. As an undergraduate (class of 1964) I had the good fortune to be at a place that had a little IBM 610 computer (84 memory locations, programming on plugboard or punched paper tape) that captured my interest and enthusiasm, and through my graduate education (in City and Regional Planning) I was working with computers all along. When I finally finished up, I looked for work in either planning or computers, and computers came up first, so I've been a computer consultant (mainframes to micros) since about 1980. I semi-retired around 2004.

I've been online a while, starting with Compuserve around 1980 (I am also known as 75026,3723). I was at college at the same time as my younger brother Lawrie; perhaps influenced by Stalky & Co., we became Cherns Major and Cherns Minor respectively. Since then, I have joined various sites using the names Cherns or ChernsMajor; on Wikipedia, Lawrie is Cherns, but other places, sometimes that name belongs to me.
