Highlights
[edit]- Patricia Grace : Grace is one of New Zealand's most important Māori women writers. The article was rated C-class when I started working on it. In February 2022 I successfully got it through GA review (I had already nominated it for DYK on the basis of 5x expansion in August 2021).
- the bone people : This is one of New Zealand's best-known books. It was written by a Māori author, Keri Hulme, and she won the Booker Prize in 1984 (the first time it had been won by a New Zealander or a debut novelist). When I started working on the page it was in a dire state and flagged for inappropriate original research. It was rated Start-class, although of high importance to the NZ Wikiproject. In October 2022 I successfully got it through GA review, and nominated it for DYK. It appeared on the main page on 1 November 2022.
- As a side benefit of working on this article and tweeting about it, I was able to link up with one of Hulme's publishers who arranged with a photographer for a bunch of his photographs of Hulme to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons In July 2022. A selection are now included on Hulme's article and on the article for the bone people.
- I have participated in a number of Women in Red edit-a-thons, for example Women writers & their works and Indigenous women. A number of the pages below marked with the Women in Red icon were created as part of these edit-a-thons. I also really enjoy being able to learn and read about other women globally as part of these edit-a-thons.
- New Zealand School Journal. This is a new article I created in April 2022 that was a highlight of the year for me; this journal was something I loved as a child in primary school and that contributed to my lifelong love of literature. I was astonished to see it didn't have a page. It's rated B-class; I'm considering putting it up for GA-review at some stage but haven't yet since it's not part of my core focus (women/Māori literature). I did however nominate it for DYK and it appeared on 20 May 2022.
- I have worked through List of New Zealand women artists & List of New Zealand artists and List of New Zealand women writers & List of New Zealand writers to make sure that anyone who appeared in the "women" list also appeared in the other list (many women were only featured in the "women" list). I am also now working through these lists to ensure they include all people listed in the relevant categories.
This one isn't from the past 12 months but I wanted to mention it anyway: I was particularly proud of getting the New Zealand literature page to GA status in October 2021, and ensuring that it had a proper focus on Māori and Pasifika literature. It was very short when I started working on it, and rated Start-class but high importance. Other users also contributed to improving the article, for example through adding content on literary festivals, which was helpful because of the breadth of the topic.
