Alex “AA” Lacson Advincula (born December 28, 1969) is a Filipino politician who is serving as the city mayor of Imus, Cavite since 2022. He previously represented the Third Congressional District of Cavite from 2013 to 2022. He also held the positions of Cavite provincial board member from 2001 to 2010 and council member of the municipality of Imus from 1998 to 2001.

Early life and education

Alex Lacson Advincula was born on December 28, 1969, in Tanzang Luma, Imus, Cavite to Anastacio Advincula and Leticia Lacson.

He finished his primary education at Tanzang Luma Elementary School in 1982 and his secondary education at Imus Institute in 1986. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Criminology degree at De La Salle University—Dasmariñas from 1986 to 1988. In 2014, he finished his Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurial Management degree from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines—Open University System while attending to his responsibilities as a neophyte representative of the Third District of Cavite.

Political career

Municipal Councilor (1998 – 2001)

Advincula entered politics in 1998 and topped the local council electorate polls in the municipality of Imus. During his three years of service, he was the chairperson of the municipal Committees on Planning and Zoning and on Economic Affairs/Trade.

Provincial Board Member (2001 – 2010)

In 2001, Advincula ran for Cavite’s provincial board membership and held the post for three consecutive terms. He earned the highest number of votes in the entire province of Cavite during the 2004 and 2007 elections.

His Sanggunian committee chairpersonship during his three terms included Committees on Public Works and Infrastructure, Oversight, Ways and Means and on Land Use, Zoning, and Urban and Rural Development. On the other hand, his provincial vice-chairmanship comprised Committees on Provincial Quarry and Economic Enterprise and on Provincial Urban Development and Housing Board.

Congressman (2013 – 2022)

Three years after taking a break from politics, Advincula won a seat in the House of Representatives as a Third District of Cavite Representative in 2013. He held the position for three consecutive years until 2022.

Advincula brought progressive programs and projects for the City of Imus's growth and development during his term as a congressman. His innovations included the establishment of the first public hospital in Imus, “Ospital ng Imus,” the construction of the City of Imus Grandstand, the relocation of the Land Transportation Office Imus, and the construction of the first flyover (Aguinaldo-Daang Hari flyover) in the entire province of Cavite.

His House committee membership included Committees on Banks and Financial Intermediaries, on Housing and Urban Development, on Local Government, on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development, on Public Works and Highways, and on Transportation. On the other hand, his House committee vice-chairmanship included the Committee on Accounts and the Committee on Ways and Means. He was also the chairperson of the Special Committee on Land Use.

Mayor (2022 – Present)

Advincula took the oath of office as city mayor of Imus on June 30, 2022. He intends to implement initiatives and projects through his five-point agenda to further improve the lives of Imuseños.

During his first 100 days, Advincula launched the Binhing Advincula Educational Assistance and Scholarship Program, implemented an electronic registration system at the Mayor's Office, held weekly cash payouts, and addressed road safety hazards, such as the beautification of center islands and streetlights.

Advincula also supervised the full implementation of the “No Segregation, No Collection Policy” under Republic Act No. 9003, also known as the "Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000," and Road Clearing Operations according to the DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2022-085.

In early 2023, he spearheaded the groundbreaking ceremonies for three other public schools in Imus, including the City of Imus Integrated School—Maharlika, and implemented full-force clearing operations to help decongest traffic on public roads.

Advincula is married to Nerissa Caguicla and has three children, including the present representative of the Third District of Cavite Adrian Jay “AJ” Caguicla Advincula.
