Leighton Paul Walsh is a Dj based in Miami, Florida.

Whether hyping up a crowd of discerning reggae enthusiasts with expert selections or introducing European festival crowds to the meaning of “Pon De Floor,” Walshy Fire has truly earned the title of Global Ambassador of Music & Culture. Highly renowned and respected throughout the Caribbean music universe as a double-threat MC and selector for Miami’s Grammy winning Black Chiney Sound System, Walshy can now also be found on the world’s biggest stages as the master of ceremonies for Diplo’s genre-bending dancehall carnival, Major Lazer.

Obtaining his Master’s Degree in Journalism, Walshy then took a job working at IBM. Unfulfilled by the corporate grind, he moved to New York City, working at legendary Brooklyn record shop Beat Street while resolving to perfect his craft as a DJ. “For a DJ, Beat Street was like being thrown into the Harvard Law program if you wanted to be a lawyer,” Walshy says of the now-closed institution, then frequented by NY’s biggest hip-hop DJs and producers. “Every record you could ever think of was there, every DJ that mattered was coming through there.”

A brief spell back in Jamaica, where he was the touring dj for Sean Paul, Walshy then returned to Miami and joined up with rising “remix kings,” Black Chiney. With Walshy in the mix, Black Chiney became a touring machine, travelling around the world and scoring a profile in The Fader magazine. Thanks to a rare combination of music and public relations skills, Walshy has found himself dubbed “Miami’s Prime Minister.” When media outlets like the Miami Herald need someone to break down the 305’s annual Caribbean Carnival, it’s Walshy who they call. Frequently tapped to DJ at prestigious venues like the Miami Art Museum and Adrienne Arsht Center, the Miami New World Symphony hs made him its official DJ.

In the midst of all this, Walshy still has an award-winning radio program on Miami’s MIXX 96.1, two TV shows (The Mix in Miami and Guinness Sounds of Greatness Jamaica). Walshy officially went global in 2011 as hypeman for Major Lazer, one of the most over-the-top live acts on the music festival circuit.
