User:Compensations

"Compensations" is a username chosen for Wikipedia (on the advice given by Wikipedia) that I choose a name that would not intimate who I actually am. But I can say that I borrow the name from Emerson; that I am a scholar of American & British literature (a field in which I have done a fair amount of publishing, including several books); that I am a full professor at a university; and that I am in my late 40s.

I do most of my scholarly work on poetry, but also a good deal of it on African-American literature and history, and on the history & literature of the U.S. during the Reconstruction and post-Reconstruction eras. I do primary scholarship as well, and have studied textual editing.
