"'Kacee (K.C) Vasudeva"' is an Indian born entrepreneur who has been an entrepreneur since arriving in Canada. He has multiple design and utility patents to his name, as well as a number of successful businesses.

Coming to Canada

Born to mother, Kaushalya Devi Vasudeva, and father, Uttam Chand Vasudeva, on October 6th, 1945, Kailash Chander Vasudeva was one of the first Indian industrialists in Canada. Kailash, now known as Kacee, graduated from the Indo Swiss Training Center in Chandigarh, India, and worked as an engineer in the Mahle Piston division at Escorts before coming to Canada.

Kacee immigrated to Canada in September 1971 and gained experience in various industries before starting up Maxtech, formerly known as Maxi-Flow. He started Maxi-Flow from his garage, and built it into a $100 million group of six automotive manufacturing plants. In order to diversify, Kacee also started Mastercut Industries Inc, now known as Maxtech Consumer Products Limited, whose specialty is designing and manufacturing innovative hand tools and power tool accessories sold to leading retail chains in Canada, the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Germany. Some major customers of Maxtech Consumer Products Limited include, but are not limited to, The Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Costco, and Home Hardware.[1] Kacee has a wife, 3 daughters, a son-in-law, and two grandchildren.

Business Contributions and Awards

Kacee is a Board Member for the Automotive Parts Manufacturer’s Association[2] and has been since 2001. As a member of the board, Kacee was given the opportunity to speak at APMA’s “Racing Down the Road – India’s Auto Sector” seminar in 2007. Kacee was also appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council of Ontario, along with James Balsillie, Co-CEO of Research in Motion and the Hon. Mr. Justice Roger E. Salhany of the Ontario Court, to serve as a member of the Board of Governors at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario in 1996. He was a member of the Board of Governors at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario; and served on the Board of the Economic Development Corporation, as well. Currently, Kacee is a Trustee of RWAM Insurance and has been since 1991, and in January 1997 was a member of Team Canada, where he accompanied former Prime Minister Honourable Jean Chretien on a trade mission to Asia.[3]. In January 2009, along with nineteen other CEOs, Kacee was a part of the Roundtable Pre-Budget Consultations to the Finance Minister, Hon. Jim Flaherty.

Kacee has received great recognition from many distinguished community organizations, including Ernst & Young, when he was one of the finalists for Ontario Entrepreneur of the Year in 1999. Kacee’s innovative thinking and determination became more evident when he was named Outstanding Business Leader in 1998 by Wilfrid Laurier University,[4]. He was also named Businessman of the Year by the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce[5] and was adjudged as one of the Top 100 Entrepreneurs in Ontario in 1995 and 1996 by the Ontario Business Report.

Maxtech’s quality and its hard-working employees who help to further this excellence have been recognized continually by the Financial Post and Arthur Andersen, when Maxtech was named one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Private Companies from 1994 to 1999[6]. Maxtech was rewarded for its team’s hard work and dedication when it received the Arvin North America Automotive Certified Supplier Award, the Walker Exhaust Outstanding Performance as a Supplier Award in 1996, the Copperweld Canada – Standard Tube Division Outstanding Supplier Award in 1998, and the CAMI President’s Award.

In the Community

Vasudeva has been popular with local media, often appearing in print and online publications. In one such example[7] Kacee reminded readers of the simple rules to follow when trying to run a successful company, such as looking after ones’ customers and always paying ones’ taxes. Kacee’s motto – Always pay your taxes, and you will eventually have to deal with less government auditing agencies.

Vasudeva is known in the manufacturing industry as a creative thinker and designer, with over 70 utility and design patents and an additional eleven patents pending. He funded the down-payment for the property now being used as the local Hindu Temple in Kitchener. Kacee was also recognized by the Hindu Sabha for his outstanding achievement in the business sector and his dedicated service to the South Asian community in 1996. He has significantly contributed to the community by helping to settle hundreds of immigrants and providing advice on how to run Max's Golf Centre in Waterloo, a family-oriented sports facility owned by his wife. Now, at 65, Kacee continues to work at Maxtech, and is starting new business including Bed Bug Prevention Products and innovating with recyclable materials.
