Jubal's Wish
[edit]Jubal’s Wish is a children’s book that was written by Audrey Wood[1] and illustrated by Don Wood. It was written in 2000. It is about a bullfrog named Jubal who went around asking his friends for a picnic but found that they were all somewhat miserable. Jubal stumbled upon a wizard that gave him a wish. Initially the wish seemed to make his friends more miserable, but by the end his wish had come true in the most unique way. [2]
Learning Points
[edit]Some learning points that could be gathered from this book would be selflessness, as Jubal spends his whole day trying to make everyone else happy like he is and wishes that they were not so miserable. It also shows Jubal himself learning patience because he must wait for the wish to come true and it takes some time to do so. [3]Jubal’s Wish can be used to teach students and young children that there is always a way to find joy and that it is important to be patient in your pursuit of happiness.
Illustrations
[edit]The illustrations in Jubal’s Wish have been said to be eye catching and vibrant. They have just enough on each page to keep the attention of students when it is being read to them. Audrey Wood uses the images to help describe each character in a very unique way, making it easier to imagine what each character sounds like. The colors are very happy and vibrant at the beginning of the book. They switch to a more muted tone when Jubal is very sad and his friends are not enjoying their life entirely. At the end the colors become more vibrant again because everyone is happy and life has become better as well. The colors mostly follow the mood of Jubal. When the wizard appears the colors become very dream-like to
follow the idea of a wizard and the fact that Jubal does fall asleep beneath a daisy. [4]
