Dr David Hope Denton AM RFD KC born July 26, 1957 in Sydney New South Wales is an Australian barrister and international arbitrator practising as a King's Counsel KC at the Victorian Bar since 1982.[1]

He was educated at Xavier College, Kew completing his final year in 1974 and was a House Captain. In 1995 and 1996 he became President of the Old Xaverians' Association [2] and is recorded in the List of Old Xaverians. After completing school he attended the Royal Military College, Duntroon. He is an LLB graduate from the Law School at Monash University [3] where he also completed a Masters of Laws LLM . He obtained a Doctorate PhD in constitutional law[4] from the University of Western Australia. He has been made a Companion of the University by Victoria University [5] for distinguished service to the University and to the legal profession.

The Governor-General of Australia created him a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the Australia Day 2023 Honours List[6] for significant service to the law. In 1989 the Governor-General awarded him a Reserve Force Decoration.

He was the founder of the Commercial Bar Association[7] of Victoria and was its President from 2001-2004. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at Victoria University since 2004. He was the Chairman of the Law Hawks Legal Coterie[8] of the Hawthorn Football Club from 2007 to 2011.
