Partha Sarathi Kar FRCP OBE is a British-Indian consultant in endocrinology and diabetes mellitus.

Early life[edit]

Kar was born on 20 December 1973 in Wordsley Hospital near Dudley, West Midlands.[1][2] Both his parents were doctors of Bengali Indian origin. He emigrated to Kolkata, India at the age of 7, where he attended local primary and secondary schools and later studied medicine at the Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital, graduating in 1997. After working as a junior doctor in the city for two years, he moved back to the UK, where he initially worked in the Kidderminster Hospital and Worcestershire Royal Hospital.[3]

Career[edit]

Kar became a consultant specialising in endocrinology and diabetes mellitus in 2008 at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. He was clinical director for the specialty at the trust from 2009 to 2015. Kar has been the co-lead for the Getting It Right First Time diabetes programme since 2020 and was the National Specialty Advisor for diabetes at NHS England between 2014 and 2024.[4][5]
