GRASIA is the Research Group on Agent-based, Social and Interdisciplinary Applications[1] of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. The main focus of the group is on the development of Free/Open Source Software tools related to distributed systems, software agents, and social systems, from an interdisciplinary approach. Examples of relevant software are INGENIAS Development Kit (IDK) and SwellRT backend as a service.
History
[edit]The group was founded by Juan Pavón and Jorge J. Gómez Sanz. In the beginning, around 1999, GRASIA research was focused on the development of methods and tools for building multi-agent systems (MAS), first with participation in the definition of the MESSAGE methodology, the first to apply model driven engineering principles for the devlopement of MAS. This work evolved into a more elaborated methodology, INGENIAS, which was supported by a set of tools, the INGENIAS Development Kit (IDK). These have been applied in different areas: distributed control systems, web engineering, information recovery, smart grids, aeronautics, art installations, etc.
Along these projects, the research has acquired a more multi-disciplinary character, by incorporating in the group experts from social sciences, communication sciences, and health services. The main goal is to promote trans-disciplinary collaboration to facilitate a cooperative and distributed teamwork in topics of social interest, such as tools for social inclusion and peer to peer production of common goods.
