Career

[edit]

Newcastle’s home grown talent Craig Clark is a singer-songwriter whose poignantly crafted lines have already propelled him into supporting the likes of Laura Marling and Ben Howard. Rosie Marsh likes what she hears.

There’s beauty, depth and sincerity in abundance with Craig Clark’s music, with songs such as Star For One and No One allowing you to bask in his charm, and not just for sweet escapism.[1] To give you a further insight, be sure to watch the music video to accompany his ambient track The Bridges, which was filmed entirely on Jesmond Dene’s very own Armstrong Bridge, and his distinctive high-register vocals artfully manage to dance between delicately intimate and quietly menacing. His new album, Sometime Bewildered, takes influences from Ryan Adams, Gavin Clark, Beth Orton and Kurt Vile to name but a few and boasts themes of love, friendships and fallouts. Although still early into his career, it appears Clark has found his artistic identity with songs like Visitors Ward, which was inspired by the film Los Lunes Al Sol by Fernando Leon de Aranoa, and Dizzy Head, an ideal summer track which curls its upbeat string melody around Craig’s raspy voice. His new album (available early next year) is, he says, a coarse affair drawing from a place where inner rawness meets external conflict. For this compelling local artist, this is just the beginning.[2]
