Priscilla Renea is an American singer/songwriter on Capitol Records [1] whose popularity initially grew via her hugely successful YouTube channel.

Internet Popularity

[edit]

Priscilla Renea started her YouTube channel in December, 2006 [2] as an outlet for self-made videos. The page has clocked up over 1 million views [3]. Videos on her You Tube channel range from Priscilla performing her own self-written songs such as “Hello My Apple”, to a 4 minute video entitled “The Dictionary: A Priscilla Renea Original... lol”, which features Priscilla singing the alphabet to the tune of Fergie ‘Glamorous’. This video quickly became a viral sensation, and has been viewed over 800 000 times [4].

On the channel, some of Priscilla Renea's fans respond to videos by leaving comments. Others respond by posting their own cover-versions of her original songs. There are over 50 cover videos of ‘Hello My Apple’ posted on You Tube [5].

Music Career

[edit]

Following the success of her You Tube channel, Priscilla Renea signed to Capitol records. Priscilla Renea’s debut EP ‘Hello My Apple’ was released on March 31, 2009 as an iTunes digital release [6], with a limited edition of signed CDs given away free to Priscilla Renea fans who signed up via her web page [7] and YouTube channel [8].

Her debut album, "Jukebox," will be released on December 1, 2009. "Jukebox" contains a collection of songs mostly, co-written by Priscilla Renea and produced by in-house producers from Power Entertainment, the production/ indie label that discovered Priscilla.

On May 10, 2010 the song "Mr. Workabee" from her debut album was featured on the episode "Ex-Husbands and Wives" (S3E21) of the show Gossip Girl.
