Which article are you evaluating?

Castle (TV series)

Why you have chosen this article to evaluate?

[edit]

The reason I chose the article about the Castle TV series is that I was searching for an article that mirrored the intentions of our Detective Fiction class. Castle is a crime/drama series I watched growing up, and is one of the reasons I enjoy not only fictional detective and mystery stories but True Crime as well. The significance of Castle to our class is that it represents a part of detective fiction many of us are already familiar with, the televised and generalized stories used for easy entertainment. My impression of the article is that it is well-written and well-researched, there is abundant information about the plotline and characters as well as the running times and accessibility of the show now that it is only showing reruns.

Evaluate the article

[edit]

Overall a well-written and researched article, the sections are complete and extensive. Some suggestions include:

Lead Section: Provide introduction to the topics of "Reception" and "Other Media."

Content: The tables have a great deal of information, and I thought that the "Tie-in Works" section would have presented better in a table or timeline because it is somewhat redundant to read about 10 book releases all presented in the same narrative structure. Could add that the series is available for purchase/rent on Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, iTunes, and Vudu. I would remove the recurring character section, or condense its content to recurring characters that appear in every season. The "DVD Releases" section could be condensed as to include a span of release dates, the additional notes, and the claim that all DVDs included all episodes from their respective season.

Tone and Balance: Overall neutral and informative tone.

Sources and References: The source claiming the ninth season was canceled in the wake of new contracts is not linked at the first mention of this fact, I would link there instead of its restatement within the article. There is great diversity in the authors of these sources and the material they present.

Talk Page Discussion: This article is rated C-class, Mid-Importance, and is part of several WikiProjects, including: Comedy, New York City, Television, United States / American Television. The Wikipedia article focuses heavily on viewer consumption and not necessarily the motivations behind that consumption, which is something we have focused on in class. Another difference is that this is a series in which each episode recreates the detective fiction plot-line similarly, thus far we have primarily focused on stories as individual works rather than a collection of stories all based upon the same idea, and how effective that would be.
