Pervasive environment
[edit]Definition In the frame of pervasive computing [1], the notion of pervasive environment means an environment where there are several cooperating intelligent agents, their goal being to automatically serve the user needs. Here, the user could be either a human being or a machine.
Applications of pervasive environments
- Pervasive environment based on sensors: we try to extract from our own environment (using different kind of sensors), not only the data related to our environment (temperature, position, etc), but also the interactions between different components of our environment. Thus we are able to recreate our 3D environment and all the interactions taking place there [2].
- Advertising pervasive environments the goal here is to deliver advertising messages to selected users by using different means (videos, e-mails, vocal messages) through devices embedded in our daily environment [3].

Project Gaia proposes some interesting software tools including an operating system for pervasive environments.
