Brewski Ball[edit]

(also known as Beercan Basketball) is a drinking game in which players throw crushed beer cans into a specially designed basket that collects them into a recycling container. Since Brewski Ball is based on concepts of basketball the number of possible games are endless. Games can be played individually or in teams. The game typically consists of two or more players with empty beer cans, the players crush their cans and toss them into the bucket from a specified distance. The goal of the game is to make more shots than the other players or teams. Variations include 21, H.O.R.S.E and Around the World. There are no official rules, so rules may vary widely.

The losing team or player must grab the next round of beers. The order of play varies – both players on one team shoot followed by both players on the other team, or players on opposite teams can alternate back and forth.

Venues[edit]

Today, brewski ball is played at parties or anytime alcohol beverages are consumed, colleges, garages, decks and elsewhere, such as tailgating or other sporting events.

Origin[edit]

Brewski ball was invented in Claycomo Missouri by Steve King and AJ Severino in 2009. Steve runs a metal shop and was frustrated with beer cans being thrown in the trash instead of being recycled. One day Steve hung a copper head collector on the wall and began throwing beer cans at it. He placed a bucket under the head collector and began to scrap the aluminum for cash. Everyone at the shop could not resist throwing their cans in the head collector. Then one day AJ came to visit the shop and decided that beercan basketball could be a great sport. They made several designs and finalized their product and launched [1] on January 16th, 2010.

Benefits[edit]

Recycling - It takes approx 28 empty 12oz. cans to equal one pound of aluminum. Scrap rates vary but 50 cents per pound is a rough estimate. Depending on the volume of cans, one could produce dozens of pounds per month.

Charity - The pop tab on the top of the can contains the cleanest and purest aluminum. The only charity that does accept these tabs as donations is the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Brewski Ball recommends that all pop tabs are sent to your local Ronald McDonald House. RMHC is not affiliated with Brewski Ball in any way.

Setup[edit]

Teams Games can be played individually or in teams.

Equipment Brewski Ball buckets are made from sheetmetal and are typically powdercoated so the cans don't scratch the surface. They measure 11" wide, 9" deep and approx 10" tall. The backboard is usually made from oak plywood and is approx 20" wide and 16" tall. Most are decorated with the owners favorite team or beverage.--

Playing FieldIdealy the playing field will resemble a smaller basketball court approx 20ft in radius from the Brewski Ball goal. But the game can also be played in a straight line from the goal in smaller spaces. The Brewski Ball goal should be 6 feet from the ground outside but will be need adjusted down for play under a roof. Be sure to place a recycling bin under the bucket to catch the cans.
