It narrates the story of Ramen, a naughty boy whom his father sends to a correction home run by Suryapada his relative. Suryapada, a freedom fighter as well, inspires Ramen. Ramen returns home a year later totally changed. He begs his father to help the victims of the famine. But his father being stubborn and stingy to help, Ramen loots all his father's (who was an aratdara or wholeseller) hoards and his father now being bankrupt, goes back to Suryapada.
