London Ki Ek Raat (lit.'A Night in London') is a novella in Urdu by Sajjad Zaheer first published in 1938.

Background

Zaheer published his first literary work Angarey, a collection of short stories, in 1932. The work was met with civil and religious outrage in India and was banned by the government. Following the outrage, in 1933, he was sent to London to study law by his father. London Ki Ek Raat was written in 1935 during Zaheer's stay in London and Paris as a student and on the ship during his return voyage to India. It was first published in 1938.

Plot

The novella open in a cold and foggy night in London where Azam, an Indian student is waiting for his girlfriend Jean at the Russell underground station in the Bloomsbury area.
