BellaVista SPA & MARINA ONOMICHI is a resort hotel located on a hill in Ohiraki, Urasaki-cho, Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. It is managed by TSUNEISHI RESORTS[1][2], a member of TSUNEISHI HOLDINGS CORPORATION.

Located in the southwest of Numakuma Peninsula in eastern Hiroshima Prefecture, it is built on a hill overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, the sea separating Honshu from Shikoku and Kyushu. It was originally built in 1973 as a guest facility for long-stay customers by TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd. of Numakuma-cho, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture.[3][4][5] The management at that time was Tsuneishi Sakaigahama Resort.  In September 2007, it underwent a major renovation, adding ocean-view rooms, a spa, and other amenities.[6] In July 2015, the official name was changed from Bella Vista Sakai Gahama to Bella Vista SPA & MARINA ONOMICHI.[7][8] The pool and spa are for the exclusive use of hotel guests.[9]

Ribbon Chapel[edit]

It was designed by Hiroshi Nakamura & NAP and built in December 2013 primarily as a wedding chapel.[10][11][12] Overall Winner of LEAF Awards[13], which recognizes architectural design that sets the global standard for the next generation.　Its originality is highly acclaimed, having also won:

The most distinctive feature of the chapel is the double spiral staircase, which is connected at the top and is also used as a structure. The interior is glass-walled, and the double spiral staircase penetrates everywhere, serving as the exterior walls and ceiling. The top is an observation deck overlooking the Seto Inland Sea with a skylight. To maintain the sense of openness, 10-cm-diameter steel columns are used to support only vertical loads. Air conditioning is provided through floor vents along the glass. The exterior of the spiral is made of wood, while the interior of the staircase is made of a weather-resistant titanium-zinc alloy. Connecting beams are used at four points where the double helixes intersect to prevent the helixes from flaring, rotating, or sinking. The entire building stands on a steel foundation placed on a seismic isolation system. It is 15 meters high and 72 square meters in size.[20][21][22][23]

Erretegia[edit]

In July 2015, a glass-walled restaurant wing was added to the poolside on the west side of the property, and the restaurant was renamed from Saden to Erretegia.[24] It was also designed by Hiroshi Nakamura & NAP.[25] The new seating area was set up so that the surface of the pool blends in with the Seto Inland Sea below. The existing seating area has been converted into a unique dining area in the kitchen.[26][27]
