[edit]

Here are some sources I have used to create the section on 'Kenya' in the article 'Women in Business'.

1. Brooks, Wyatt, Kevin Donovan, and Terence R. Johnson. 2018. "Mentors or Teachers? Microenterprise Training in Kenya." American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, 10 (4): 196-221.

2. Lock, R. and Lawton Smith, H. (2016), "The impact of female entrepreneurship on economic growth in Kenya", International Journal of Gender and Entrepreneurship, Vol. 8 No. 1, pp. 90-96. https://doi.org/10.1108/IJGE-11-2015-0040

This source talks about the impact of entrepreneurship for poor women in Kenya and the social obstacles/opportunities presented in Kenya. The paper explains that Kenya’s current economic and political climate has been the most welcoming for women starting micro-enterprises. Yet, although some cases showed successful stories of women leaving the poverty trap of Kenya, the article concludes that for women to make a significant impact on GDP though, the government needs to implement more effective policies, regulate the informal, and provide resources and support for female entrepreneurs. This is a helpful source because it helps demonstrate the potential impact female entrepreneurship could have if only the government took more measures to implement programs. This also helps aid the needs talk portion in that it portrays some history of state interventions, barriers to growth, and the need for more effective strategies.

3. Mwobobia, Fridah Muriungi. “The Challenges Facing Small-Scale Women Entrepreneurs: A Case of Kenya.” International Journal of Business Administration, vol. 3, no. 2, 2012, doi:10.5430/ijba.v3n2p112.

This source shows the obstacles for female entrepreneurs as well as past initiatives put in place to help them. The article is very strong because it explains past government interventions, such as the Women Enterprise Fund. This will greatly help support my needs talk sections regarding state provisioning and barriers for female entrepreneurship.

4. “Where We Are : Eastern and Southern Africa : Kenya.” Africa UN Women.
