M.E.N., The Male Empowerment Network, is the newest initiative under the Student Multicultural Center at Kent State University. In response to the staggering decline of African American Male retention rates in higher education, M.E.N. fosters academic success, personal development, social awareness, and professionalism in men of color on kent state's campus. This organization is supported by the student multicultural center. It's sister organization on kent states campus is Sister Circle. Recognizing the need for an environment that young african American scholars at kent state university can call their own, Michael Daniels, founder and first member created the M.E.N initiative. Daniels created M.E.N with these 3 goals in mind: Increase positive healthy relationships amongst men of color students, To facilitate culturally relevant discussion groups amongst M.E.N. members and members of the campus and local community and To increase collegiate awareness via collaborations with professional partnerships and community engagement. The mission of M.E.N. is to establish a strong support network of Kent State University men of color who will nurture, advocate and enrich the educational and leadership development of our male students of color, through meaningful relationships and programs to develop high achieving and empowered men of excellence. It intended to provide strategies of holistic development for male students, in particular for Men of color. Holistic development includes a focus on academic pursuits along with mental, physical, emotional and spiritual awareness encompassing complete self-development toward individual student success. M.E.N. Strives to encourage males in developing self-confidence and making positive life-long and collegiate decisions to maximize their personal, academic and professional aptitude. The current president of M.E.N. is Joe Napier. His vision for M.E.N. is to see the brotherhood, excitement, and retention rate of minority makes on campus rise. M.E.N continues to serve the community through serving as role models for men of all ages and colors. Members participate in bi-weekly meeting and serve the community through Little Brother Programs with surrounding schools such as Revena High school, StowHigh School, and Streetsboro High school. M.E.N.'s motto is I am a Man of Excellence, and so is my Brother.Mcassell04 (talk) 13:39, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
