My name is Emmanuel. I was born in 1946 in Stockholm. I also lived in Beirut, Toronto and Austin (Texas). I have a PhD in astrophysics and did research in that field for 40 years. I am now retired and live in south-western France.

Languages spoken

My mother tongue is French. I speak Swedish and English fluently, German and Spanish hesitantly. I read in these five languages with only minor difficulties. I studied Russian many years ago, and can read it, but don't understand much beyond the basic vocabulary. As for Arabic (the middle-eastern dialect), I can count, tell time, ask how much things cost and understand the answer, but not much beyond that. After inheriting a collection of old Japanese and Chinese prints and books, I started deciphering them to find out who the author was, what the subject was. This led to a webpage about my Collection of old Asian prints and coins.

Most of my edits are minor, mostly limited to the French and English pages. They are generally linked to my current interests, history, history of science, music, literature, oriental art.
