NASA Mission: A Helping Hand: Shuttle Explorer (SR-171)- June 8th - August 15th, 1996.
NASA mission 304,Shuttle Explorer (SR-171), launched from the Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday, June 8, 1996. The initial launch included a team of three individuals, one NASA astronaut (Mathew Kowalski), one mission bio-medical engineer (Mary A. Dobbin), and a recent Harvard graduate (Shariff Gunthestan). The initial mission was projected to last two months, however, space conditions due to ultraviolet rays from the Sun and extremely low temperatures from the Moon, halted the mission for a few days at a time. The mission objective was to fix and replace a side panel of the United States Space Station that had been damaged from radioactive Sun beams, generated from the tilt on Junipers axis. Notorious for the gruesome and horrific events that unfolded, mission, A Helping Hand, was the underlying basis for the 2013 blockbuster, Gravity, directed by Alfonso Cuarón, staring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock.
Shuttle Explorer was hit by an field of shattered debris, caused from a recent Russian Space Program disaster. The Russians had sent out two satellites, both colliding with each other in the process, causing a series of life-changing, and horrific events. The debris then spread throughout Space, being sucked into a gravitational pull, moving at over 3,000,000 MPH. The debris was filled with sharp poking things that were deadly when moving with the force of God, wreaking havoc on those who crossed its path.
After the Russian debris had made deadly contact with the individuals on Shuttle Explorer, Mary A. Dobbin, was able to reach a close-by, Chinese Space Station. From there, she was able to override an escape pod and crash-landed in the South African Ocean. From there, Mary was picked up by her NASA counterparts where she was then put on trial for ruining the United States Space Station. Mary was also notorious in her own right for now picking up after herself, specifically, leaving coffee rings from her cup, where ever she went. After the lawsuit, Mary was then found guilty of coffee ring stains or CRS, in the summer of 1997.
Mary was then sentenced to a public execution by hanging in a small town in Texas, 20 miles from Dallas. NASA has since made the statement that they felt bad about the lawsuit and wishes nothing but the best for Mary in her afterlife. Alfonso Cuar'on did not want to go into detail about the lawsuit so instead, he had Sandra Bullock, who played Mary A. Dobbin, in the film, Gravity, land in the Indian Ocean and walk away, unharmed.
