I will be using two sources, focusing on quality over quantity as this is the minimum requirement listed in the instructions. Below are my sources and my notes for each source.


In addition to focusing on quality over quantity, I will be adding photos pertaining the topic.

Rhetorical Notation: Genre, Purpose, Audience, Exigency:

The purpose of this source is to give the reader an insight about the process being used and the different impacts it provides. The audience would be law enforcement members who are specializing in this, scholars or even individuals with personal interests with a desire for a further understanding. The exigency is not entirely urgent, however for certain cases and certain organizations who push for the advancement and further use of this technique have an increased level of demand.


Summary/Evaluation:

The document covers what forensic genetic genealogy is, and what the science behind it entails with an in depth look/explanation. There are dozens of reliable and relevant sources from this facility. Including criminal cases being resolved, which is covered in the Wikipedia article. There are also categories for natural disaster victim identification, living doe situations, and human remains - all of which are not mentioned in the Wikipedia article.


Why would your chosen Wikipedia article benefit from including this source as a citation and how/where would you incorporate it?

I picked this source to add to my Wikipedia article because it comes from a credible source, and provides new insights to forensic genetic genealogy. It was created by Dr. T.L. Dowdeswell, which is a credible title on the matter. To add, with the addition of bodies that are unidentifiable in events such as housefires or natural disasters, it can provide additional use besides just for law enforcement looking for a criminal. This should be added to the Wikipedia article for readers to view. I will create a headline for uses and create subheadings for each use: criminal cases, natural disasters, etc.

Its purpose is to give an insight without having to take the classes to learn about the process being used. The purpose for this source is tied to education as it is a graduate thesis from a student from West Virginia University. The original audience was the initial reviewers of her work. Now it is available for the public and scholars to view and use for their own research.


Summary/Evaluation:

This source provided a better insight to the science behind the topic without getting too confusing. This is pertinent for myself as an editor and reader, as well as the readers of this Wikipedia article because most of us are not scientists. It allows us to have a small roadmap of x, y, & z as to how it works instead of why we need it.


Why would your chosen Wikipedia article benefit from including this source as a citation and how/where would you incorporate it?

This article will provide better insight to readers who are less familiar with the science and biology tied with it. Most people will take science in their k-12 education, but typically that’s as in depth as they pursue their science education. Even though I have been taking science classes for school, this science was a little difficult for me to wrap my head around. For incorporation, I will add it in a brief synopsis/behind the scenes to include more info about the way it works.

Reflection Paragraph

The whole research journey for forensic genetic genealogy was a little difficult. There was a lot of information being repeated when looking for credible sources. This is why I chose a code book written in 2022 by someone with a doctorate in the field, as well as a scholar who wrote on the subject. Figuring out which options to select when uploading free to use images was also a little bit of a headache, but was easy enough after some back and forth comparisons in their rules.
