User:DeleteAsstBot
This user account is a bot operated by PocklingtonDan (talk). It is used to make repetitive automated or semi-automated edits that would be extremely tedious to do manually, in accordance with the bot policy. This bot does not yet have the approval of the community, or approval has been withdrawn or expired, and therefore shouldn't be making edits that appear to be unassisted except in the operator's or its own user and user talk space. Administrators: if this bot is making edits that appear to be unassisted to pages not in the operator's or its own userspace, please block it. |
Who or what is DeleteAsstBot?
[edit]DeleteAsstBot is a wkipedia bot, an account on wikipedia that does not represent the editing activities of a human at a computer keyboard, but of edits carried out by a script (a small computer program). PocKleanBot is developed by User:PocklingtonDan but may be run by any wikipedia user. Once set running, the bot is makes edits based on user input.
It is not a sock puppet, but rather an automated or semi-automated account for making repetitive edits that would be extremely tedious to do manually.
What DeleteAsstBot does
[edit]DeleteAsstBot is a wikipedia bot. It acts as a wizard interface to the process of requesting an article for deletion. The manual process as it stands at the moment is very long-winded, time-consuming, un-user-friendly and arcane. The bot would provide a simple, clean interface for data entry in form fields and selection from drop-down boxes, and then make the required edits int he background based on user input.
Intended use
[edit]It is intended to be used (eventually as the default/only option based ont he toolserver hopefully) as a neat, simple, wizard interface for all proposals for article deletion. If the concept is approved and works, it could be expanded to cover other manual processes such as requesting bots for approval and other tasks.

Development goals
[edit]Aim for Version 1.00 to be in trials by end of January 2006 Aim for version 2.00 is full integration onto toolserver as default wizard interface.
Request for Approval
[edit]You can read or add comments on the bot's request for approval page.
Bot Controls
[edit]Currently you can only run the bot by clicking here but if accepted in the RFA process, it is intended that the bot could be run directly from the wikipeida afd request page.
Bot maintenance
[edit]The bot is maintained by User:PocklingtonDan. Any questions on its operation should be addressed to him.
Bot language
[edit]The bot is written in Perl and hosted remotely. If it passes bot approval and sees regular use, i might try and find out about getting it moved to the wikipedia toolserver.
Source Code
[edit]When coding starts, the source code for DeleteAsstBot will be located at User:DeleteAsstBot/SourceCode. The source code is presented for two reasons:
- So that editors with greater experience of Perl and wikipedia may suggest code improvements
- So that editors who might wish to run DeleteAsstBot as a clone (ie mirror DeleteAsstBot on their own servers) are able to do so (possibly for a foreign-language version - DeleteAsstBot only works on English Wikipedia).
I grant permission for the distribution and modification of DeleteAsstBot code for the purposes of editing wikipedia. I would greatly appreciate your feedback and comments for improvement on the code.
