Deliso mary/Church of Sant'Anna

The church of Sant'Anna, formely known as Santa Pelagia, is a church in Bari located in Via strada palazzo di città.

Story[edit]

The building dates back to the 11th century and at the time it was located in via Franchigena, one of the livelist arteries of anciet Bari. It is a church of great architectural interest due to the mixture of different cultures and ethnic groups linked to the historical events of the city.

The gabled facade with a pitched roof reveals that the church has a single nave, but the white surface is interrupted by the presence of numerous marble panels, depicting real or fantastic animals drawn from oriental culture.

Internal[edit]

A magnificent wooden altar carved with gilded tendrils, in the form of a triumphal arch, with four Corinthian columns, is decorated with statues representing Franciscan saints: Tommaso da Villanova, Nicola da Tolentino, Giovanni da San Facondo and Saint Augustine, patron saint of the church.
