Overview

[edit]

Game development, production, or design is a process that starts from an idea or concept. Often the idea is based on a modification of an existing game concept. The game idea may fall within one or several genres. Designers often experiment with different combinations of genres. A game designer generally writes an initial game proposal document, that describes the basic concept, gameplay, feature list, setting and story, target audience, requirements and schedule, and finally staff and budget estimates. Different companies have different formal procedures and philosophies regarding game design and development. There is no standardized development method; however commonalities exist.

After the initial process of going over the basic concepts the next step is to start its creation. There are currently multiple different languages that can be used when creating a game each one providing their ups and downs. This is where it is important for the video game developer to determine which language best fit their goal as each individual language has their advantages and disadvantages.[1]

The Final step a video game developers needs to take is to either coordinate with specialists or work on the visual aspects themselves. This is referring to the environment, characters, and any items needed to be shaped out. As the video game industry has progressed the complexity to this has continued to increase from two-dimensional games stepping into three-dimensional, the modelling becomes more realistic and complicated. This is why its become more common for programmers to team up with others who can accomplish those tasks. [2][3]
