On June 29th 2003, it was the beginning of a lifelong dream for the then 20 year old Mikey Hutchinson. It was on this day that he made his entrance into the spotlight as a Disc Jockey on the popular radio station Wee FM.

Before that he spent two years at Spice Capital Radio learning his way around broadcasting.

Many will remember Mikey as the young man from Gouyave, who at the age of 13 won the Junior Calypso Monarch.

His passion for music was the doorway that led to the transformation of the Media as we know it in Grenada. Mikey “The Hot Shot Kid”, as he is affectionately known, is the man behind the popular Seduction Sunday programme, hosted on Wee FM radio. Also, his two hour segment during the weekday has been sponsored for many years by both Digicel and On The Spot Hardware.

Being a career driven individual, Mikey decided to try something new and in 2010 got into the field of Journalism. It was there that he found yet another “Love”-writing. As a result of this, Mikey is now pursuing a degree in Media Studies at the TA Marryshow Community College. At present he maintains a grade point average of over 3.5. Adding to the training Hutchinson received in brand management four years ago in China, he travelled to both Las Vegas and Los Angeles in 2012 to receive training and further knowledge in content management, again for the field of TV. Though not yet fully involved, young Hutchinson is preparing to hit the TV industry by storm.

Mikey was awarded the Digicel and MWAG People’s Choice Award; Best Radio Personality in 2009 and Media Personality of the Year in 2010. He was the first time winner of the newly introduced Anthony “Jericho” Greenidge award in 2011. Also, he was awarded by Wee FM in 2011 for being the Most Committed Employee with Responsibility and Interest to Advancing Technology.

Through team effort, Hutchinson made Wee FM radio the first Radio Station in Grenada to have a 24/7 in studio camera streaming it's happenings to the world, in a "radio you can see" concept. This was launched just under seven months ago.

Mikey also takes his ingenious ideas to the World Wide Web. He is the brain child behind WeeFmGrenada.Com, one of Grenada's most popular websites. In November of 2011, Mikey launched a fully mobile compatible version of Wee FM’s website allowing users of almost every device to be able to view the sites content.

Mikey also holds years of experience under his belt in remote broadcasting. Using Advance Audio Coding; Mikey makes it possible for Wee FM radio to broadcast its programmes from anywhere and have the same sound quality as if the programmes were broadcasted directly from the studio.

In 2011 Hutchison was put under the spotlight for his news network, Grenada News Alert. Two years later GNA continues to improve and has entered in the arena of marketing. GNA is a mobile based news network that breaks major local stories long before traditional media does. Hutchinson is not all about work and no play; he enjoys playing pools, traveling and spending time with his friends and family. Additionally, photography has sparked his interest and he has since proven to be a master of all trades. He also stays true to his Gouyave roots and is an avid fisherman and boating enthusiast.

With his creativity and innovations we will have to wait and see what other ingenious plans he has in store for the future.
