Musical Style And Influences

[edit]

The style of the band is reminiscent of prototype 60s psychedelic rock similar to Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead; the name Mephistopheles was taken from the 16th century legend of Faust in which the protagonist sells his soul to the son of the devil.[4] The group released a single album titled "In Frustration I Hear Singing" in 1969.[4] The album was written and produced by experienced expert musicians and consists of impressive guitar work, unusual use of instrumentation such as flute and trumpet as well as non-conforming odd-meter, and features untoward track names and bizarre content particularly indicative of the era and genre.[4]
