Angie Gray is an American actress [1] and multi-disciplinary artist, known for her work in “Matador” and “The Law of Desire”, both directed by Academy Award winner Pedro Almodovar. and starring Antonio Banderas.Other films include “Duck Dance” which garnered her great reviews [2] and “The Milky Life” in which she starred alongside Marianne Sägebrecht and Mickey Rooney.[3]
Coming from a family of scientists, crazy about Art, Gray used to draw and paint since early childhood. After high school, she attended the University of California, Irvine [4] where she studied Art under Craig Kauffman, Tony DeLap and Ed Bereal receiving her Bachelor's degree in Studio Art[5]. While at UC Irvine she also participated in the University's theater and dance programs. After graduation, she continued her drama studies briefly in NYC.
Originally starting her professional life in NY as an art director, by chance, her work with photographers led to modeling jobs and then Europe [6]. As a fashion model she graced the pages of numerous magazines including Elle and Vogue and worked for some of the most charismatic photographers of La Movida Madrilena like Alberto Garcia-Alix, then some acting roles came along [1] [7] [8], but she never stopped being involved with art, painting, and making works on paper and collages.
Gray has had exhibitions in Los Angeles, New York, Ecuador, Madrid and Toulouse [9]. Most recently her explorations have resulted in several European solo shows, including a remarkable exhibition in 2017 at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid "Climate Change: West Coast Expressionism"[10] a series of large colorful abstract canvases dedicated to her concern with climate change, floods, the melting of the poles, desertification etc. [11] In 2019 She participated with another 24 artists in "Artivismo" during COP25, another exhibition dedicated to bring awareness to the climate crises, which she co-curated and took place at the famous Tabacalera space in Madrid (Spain).
In 2020 she directed a short film about the surrealist couple Salvador Dali and his wife Gala "Waiting for Gala" [12] based on the letters of poet Paul Eluard, starring Enrique Alcides as Dali ,with music by Bernardo Bonezzi
Angie Gray presently has residences in both Madrid and Los Angeles.
