Lyme Bay Radio

History

A community radio station founded originally in Lyme Regis in March 2020 under the auspices of Lyme Regis Development Trust. The founders were Chris Tipping and Simon West who acted as Program Manager and Station Manager respectively; along with Tracey West were the original presenters of the breakfast show, and all three presented the launch show on March 1st. ^[1]There were some signs of disagreement at this stage, as West wanted the first song to be Queen's Radio GaGa which Tipping disagreed with as he thought it was a bit cliche, although this was lighthearted. Unfortunately a mere 4 weeks after starting, the station was shut down due to the first UK Coronavirus lockdown, and a few weeks later West left the station. Tipping continued to act as both Program and Station Manager and with the help of Ashley Kellett managed to rebuild the station with presenters producing their own shows from home. Kellet was key to producing a new direction for the station,and shortly after becoming involved became Station Manager. He continued to evolve the seperate elements of the Staion including Late Night Lyme which mirrors the club scene in the UK, and championing the community elements.

In May 2020 to celebrate re-launching the team unveiled a complete new look including an iconic logo design by Cleo Cobb. Since then, the Radio has gone from strength to strength and in January 2022 celebrated breaking 2500 listeners.
