Vishal Solanki was born on May 14 1983, Mumbai, India and studied Applied Art at Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai, with a specialization in still photography. He was awarded the bronze medal for most promising work, winning the Government of Maharashtra bronze medal followed by the Communication Arts Guild (CAG) bronze, First Prize at the All India Advertising Competition conducted by the Manipal Institute of Communication, besides other advertising awards from JWT and Trinity.

Solanki spent a lot of his early years in school, winning number of awards in drawing and painting. During college he spent a lot of time in the studio shooting still photographs and as much time in the dark room making his own black and white prints. He also learned and worked under cinematographers Binod Pradhan and Vijay Kartik on Munnabhai MBBS and Taxi No. 9211. He then flew to the United States where he studied cinematography, directing and screenwriting and graduated with honors. At school he was fortunate to work with camera operator Robert Stevens on After Midnight. Since, Vishal has been working independently in Bollywood as a Director of Photography. His recent works include feature film Losing You and documentaries Pashan Palvi, Sunaina among the various tv commercials and shorts such as Releve, C-1, etc. Vishal has worked in films in languages such as English, Spanish, Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi.
