History of St Charles Rwanga senior secondary school[edit]

St Charles Rwanga is a school situated in the northern part of Namibia about 20 km from Outapi town alongside Outapi-Ruacana road. This school was first known by the name Omuulukila combined school. This school was named after the church which was destroyed by bomb blast in 24 September 1987. It’s situated in the district of Ombalantu, called Omuulukila Catholic Church. A Church was reduced to rumble by an explosion in northern Namibia and it was built long time ago with the help of funds fromWest Germany. [1] The explosion demolished the Church and the nearby school escaped damage and there were no casualties.

Charles Rwanga caters for about 300 learners from the neighboring villages. In 1993,the school was divided in two sections of which one section cater for learners from grade 1 to grade 7.This section was called Okahao because it on the side facing Okahao town in ongandjera. The other section caters for learners from grade 8 to 10 and this section was called Ombandja because it faces the Ombandja area.[2]

Changes as years go by[edit]

In 2004, Omuulukila combined school was identified to be the cluster center for Outapi circuit.[3]

With the increasing in the number of students enrolling for grade 11, the ministry of education found a need for this school to be upgraded to a secondary school to assist with the grade 11 enrollment.2011 the ministry had decided to give them a go ahead for grade 12 and in the same year, the school was renamed to Charles Rwanga S.S.S.They renamed Charles Karoli Lwanga born in 1865–June 3, was a Ugandan Catholic catechist martyred for his faith and revered as a saint in the Catholic Church. He was born in the kingdom of Buganda in the southern part of modern Uganda, and served as a page and later major-domo in the court of King Manga II. As part of the king's effort to resist foreign colonization, he had begun to insist that Christian converts abandon their new faith, and executed many Anglicans and Catholics between 1885 and 1887, many of whom were officials in the royal court and Okahao section became an independent school and took the name Omuulukila primary school.
