Donnie Laney is a experience and skilled law enforcement officer with 32 years working in the criminal justice system in various roles at the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office and the United States Air Force Security Police. His expertise includes homicide investigations, criminal intelligence, federal task forces, and evidence collection.

Career

United States Air Force Security Police veteran serving from June 1992 until November 1999 as active duty and inactive reserves.

After being honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1996, he joined the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office. He began his career in Corrections and ERT and was later transferred to patrol in 2001, where he participated in various task forces. In 2006, he was transferred to the detectives and worked on person crimes such as homicides, suicides, robberies, and sexual assaults. In 2013, he played a key role in the creation of the Domestic Violence Task Force. His unparalleled dedication and relentless efforts resulted in over 500 arrests in just 9 years, a feat that earned him well-deserved recognition. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2016 and assigned to Internal Affairs Investigations, where he modernized the unit for better investigations. He was also responsible for personnel issues and recruitment. During the same period, he was sworn in on a federal task force. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2019 and assigned to Warrants, Civil, Probation, and Government Infrastructure Security Divisions.

He received the Lead Homicide Investigator designation from the state of Louisiana and served as an expert instructor on various criminal justice topics at the local academy.

Politics

In 1992, he enrolled as a Republican in Troup County, Georgia, and later, in 1996, in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. However, he prefers to keep his political beliefs private and does not talk about them publicly. It is rumored that he has no desire to pursue a career in politics and prefers to lead a private life after retirement.

Film

He was featured on Season 3 of crime drama Murder Chose Me on Investigation Discovery along with friend and neighbor Rodney Demery.

Books

He is in the process of writing his first book entitled, "My Father's DNA" which is expected to be published in 2026.
