Dana Paul Franz was born on March 16, 1970, the only child of Paul Albert Franz and Frances Lynette Franz (nee Ritt). Mr. Franz grew up in Seattle, WA, and currently lives in Falls Church, VA.

Franz grew up playing guitar, and still plays in bands. In his 20s, he went to college at Western Washington University and Washington State University, obtaining bachelors and masters degrees in physics. Since graduation, Franz has worked in various roles in the defense industry. In 2012, he completed his MBA at Georgetown University, Washington, DC. He currently provides consulting support to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Systems Engineering (DASD(SE)).
