About me

I hold the Chair in Uncertainty Modelling at the University of Edinburgh (UK). I obtained a BEng and an MEng from the University of Bologna (Italy) and a PhD from the University College Cork (Ireland). From 2009 to 2011 I was Assistant Professor at Wageningen University (the Netherlands) and, before that, I spent four years at University College Cork (IRL).

My research focuses on automated reasoning. I develop systems that aim to be robust and scalable in such a way as to enable computers to act intelligently in increasingly complex real world settings and in uncertain environments. I conduct cross-disciplinary methodological as well as applied research in decision making under uncertainty, artificial intelligence, operational research and supply chain management.

My research has appeared in leading international journals, such as Artificial Intelligence Journal, Constraints, the European Journal of Operations Research, the INFORMS Journal on Computing, OMEGA - the International Journal of Management Science and others. I have over fourty peer-reviewed intellectual contributions.

I led and/or participated to a number of national (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) and international research projects, including European research projects, on topics such as value chain research in telecommunications (CTVR), logistics modeling in meat production (Q-Pork chain, EU-FP6), microbial risk assessment in global food chains (Veg-i-trade, EU-FP7) and emission reduction in construction (Innovate UK, Volvo Construction Climate Change Fund).
