Dr. Chitra living in Hong Kong is an IT professional, researcher, educationist, innovator, lecturer, web designer, App developer, author, poet, journalist, editor of magazines, dramatist, news reporter, event organisor and radio broadcaster. She was born to Meiyappan and Sakunthala. She began her as Software engineer at Chennai and presently an entrepreneur developing App as incubator of Hong Kong Science and Technology Park.

Early Life and Education

Dr. Chitra was born in Chinnalapatti, Dindugal district, Tamil Nadu. Father being in a Government service, she was brought up in Chennai. After completing school education in Durga Nursery, Kodambakkam and Sri. RKM Sarada Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School, T. Nagar, joined Meenakshi College for Woman, Kodambakkam and completed B.Sc Mathematics (1986) with distinction and 8th Rank in Tamil Language in University of Madras.

After doing one year from Master of Mathematics in the same college, she switched over to Master of Computer Application (MCA) seeing the future prospects in IT industry. After marriage, came back to complete second year of Master of Mathematics. In 1990, she obtained First Rank in University of Madras in MCA degree. After a break of 25 years of education, she joined for Ph.D course and completed with perseverance in a period of 3 years in 2017.

Career

Started the career Lecturer at Meenakshi College for Woman after a short term work as Software Engineer for Sherif Travels and Cargo Ltd, Chennai for two months before getting the MCA results. After moving to Bengaluru, worked in Zenith Controls and Systems Ltd for short while and joined Bharat Electronics as Deputy Engineer. In 1995, she got the AOTS Alumni scholarship for a year to get on job training at Shigeru Information Services Ltd. In 1996 moved to Hong Kong to join her husband. After working in Super Logic Technology Limited, Hong Kong for 6 months joined as Analyst Programmer at CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd. After 10 years of service at CLP, she took a career break for few years to work in her own company Globe Impex HK Ltd and then started another venture of Aham Solutions HK Ltd to develop Apps.

During all these work, she joined as a part-time lecturer at SCOPE, City University of Hong Kong to teach Information Systems to students of Staffordshire University, UK.

Presently working as Editor of NAARI The Woman magazine.

Personal Life

Her husband Krishnan Sivakumar is an executive of a Trading organization. He sources goods from China to African countries. Dr. Chitra has two children, a son Dinesh and a daughter Gayathri.

She was coordinator for opening and running an International school for Asian expats in Guangzhou, China from 2014-2017. She is lobbying to get an Indian School in Hong Kong for more than 12 years now.

As an Innovator

Through her Aham Solutions HK Ltd start up, she developed different products. Her Globolo App, a language learning App to learn more than 10 languages through your native language got selected for Elevator Pitching Contest in Hong Kong in 2017. Her Mr. Property App, linking property management office to residents of an estate is another product which as approved for developing fund through Incu App of Hong Kong Science and Technology Park in 2018.

She was founder and editor of a Tamil E-magazine named Hong Kong Tamil Malar from 2013-2018. Presently the editor of NAARI The Woman, a lifestyle magazine for woman published in Hong Kong and circulated in Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area.

Media Works

Started media carrier the time when she was in university. Thanks to the Cricket craze that made her start writing. Cricter lovers of 80s still remember the last ball bowled by Chetan Sharma in Sharjah World Cup and Javed Miandad hitting the sixer to take Pakistan to victory. The write up sent to AIR gave her the opportunity to present Sports Round up programme. Recent years she kept myself busy acting as honarary reporter for Tamil Daily Dinamalar and project co-ordinator for RTHK Radio programmes.

She was editor for a Tamil E-magazine of Hong Kong - Tamil Malar since 2013 registering various Indian events happening in Hong Kong and encouraging Tamil writers.

Organised workshops and booths to promote Indian culture to the residents of International City at events organized by Hong Kong Government, UNESCO and other associations.

She brings community together to serve the needy. Major work was done during 2004 Tsunami in organising material Collection. Fund raising was done for sponsoring children education for Udavum Karangal, Chennai by Tung Chung Community in 2016 and Charity collection for India Development Fung, 2017.
