Professor: Ali Shams El Din Biography

Ali Shams El Din became the first elected president of Benha University in October 2011.  A lecturer, then Associate Professor of Pesticides Chemistry and Toxicology, He served as the Chair of the Plant Protection Department and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, in 2005 he appointed as Vice President of Community Service and Environmental Affairs at Benha University, in 2008 he took over the responsibilities of Education and Students affairs. 


Under Shams El Din’s leadership, Benha proposed its most ambitious campus expansion. Establishment of the Language Center, the center of information and research services he launched a number of new initiatives that include: the Leader Forums, which invites prominent Leadership figures to the campus to engage in the major issues of our time, the faculty Committee to pursue scholarship and generate new curriculum models that help students to become better citizens, and leadership of the future. As well as new academic partnerships with institutions around the world. On the other hand, Professor Shams El Din has elected for about ten years as the President of the Youth and Sports Committee – in Cairo Local Council. A chairman and a member of several NGO’s, President of Geizira Youth Centre, chair of the National Environmental Protection Society of Egypt, member of the United Nations Society of Egypt, advisor to the Egyptian Parliament, , and a member of the National Council for Women. Being an ex member of the Secretariat of Policies of (NDP) gave him the political view great experience, as caused him many controversy too, especially after the Egyptian revolution (25th Jan 2010).

Professor Shams El Din also worked as the Cultural and Educational attaché at the Egyptian Embassy, in the United Kingdom form 1996-2000. He was a candidate for the European Biannual Research Prize of the International Ozone Association, and awarded the Medal of Cairo and Certificate of recognition by the Cairo governorate for his voluntary efforts and achievements in the protection of the Nile River. Ali Shams El Dine, traveled over different countries, and he is known as a well public speaker, and meanwhile he wrote more than 35 scientific paper published in different periodicals in the agriculture, chemistry of pesticides, environmental protection issues as well as numerous articles and interviews and quotations in media on political, public, and scientific issues.

Professor Shams El Din holds a BSC in agricultural sciences from Benha University, a certificat d’Etudes Superieures in physical chemistry, a Diplome d’Agronomoie Approfondie in analytical chemistry, and PhD in Science Agriculture from the Institute National Agronomique (AgroParisTec).
