The Waukegan News-Sun was not distributed by the paper on news stands in downtown Waukegan during the 1950's and for many years before and after. They contracted with a newspaper distributor Porett Brothers (Leo, Hymie, and Harry)[1] The News-Sun, an afternoon Newspaper, took care of most of the home delivery within Waukegan city proper and I believe neighbor the City of North Chicago. Porett Brothers controlled the distribution of delivery of the New-Sun elsewhere in Lake County along with four Chicago papers (C. Sun-Times, C. Tribune, C. Daily News, The C. American) and the Milwaukee Sentinel.

Downtown Waukegan had five wooden curbside newsstands. One was the Main Stand on Washington St. and at Genesee St. the center of downtown. "Main" carried a fuller line of publications and was open 12-14 hours a day 7 days a week.[2] These five stands contributed a large percentage of the Waukegan New-Sun sales.[3] As a grade school student, from 1953-1955, I worked on 2 stands and progressed to the morning "main" stand. I also home delivered the Sun-Times and the Tribune in the morning before working the "main" stand until I left for school.
